About

I create handmade ceramics inspired by the places, cultures, and traditions I encounter through travel. My work blends global influences with a contemporary sensibility, resulting in functional pieces designed for gathering, serving, and everyday rituals around the table.
Working primarily in stoneware, I combine wheel throwing and hand-building techniques to create organic forms with distinctive textures and patterns. Surface decoration often incorporates sgraffito, a process of carving through layers of slip to reveal contrasting clay beneath.
Travel has been a constant source of inspiration. Collections such as La Tierra draw from the colors and textures of Mexico—earth, sea, and stone—while other pieces reflect patterns, materials, design, and traditions discovered across different cultures. Food and the experience of sharing meals also play an important role in my work; many pieces are designed as serving objects that bring people together.
I studied wheel throwing at Greenwich House Pottery in New York and BKLYN CLAY in Brooklyn and have been a full time ceramicist for five years.
My ceramics are made in small batches, with each piece individually formed, glazed, and fired. Through my work, I hope to create objects that are both functional and expressive—pieces that bring beauty, story, and a sense of place to the table.
I do offer custom commissions! If you have a request, please contact me at Ljakobsberg@gmail.com. I am experienced in matching existing tableware sets for consistency, as well as creating something entirely new for you or for gifts.
